This past year MESA had the honor of partnering with Kansas State University to sponsor the Design Discovery Award. The award allowed 2 students in the Landscape Architecture and Regional & Community Planning Department the opportunity to research and experience landscape architecture abroad. The award recipients, Kelsey Steward and Kaitlin Bernal, traveled to Costa Rica and Northern Europe, respectively. Their studies focused on the elements of design – from large scale to small scale issues, design processes, and how it impacts the built environment. Through this experience the students were able to gain exposure to and generate an understanding of the impact that landscape architecture has had in different regions and cultures.
