Valley View Municipal Complex is a 33-acre office and industrial maintenance yard for the City of Irving, Texas. Housing both the Streets and Water Department and the Police Auto Pound, the site program is compiled of office buildings, a maintenance yard for dump trucks, material bins, and vehicle storage, forming an unusual site plan. MESA’s approach was to maximize the greenspace in the front of the project and screen out the industrial back-of-building uses. It has become a contrast of spaces: front vs. back, public vs. private, fluid vs. orthogonal. This contrast brings interest to the space and creates a beautiful frontage for the public to enjoy.
